FOCUS ON 21st CENTURY LEARNING

The Cappies is a writing and awards program that trains high school theatre and journalism students to be expert writers, critical thinkers, and leaders. Student critics vie to be published in local media outlets by attending productions at other schools and writing critical reviews.

THROUGH THE CAPPIES

Theatre and journalism students are trained as critics and attend each others shows. Cappies students discuss and learn about theatre production. Throughout the year, newspapers publish the reviews with the students' bylines. At the end of the year, Cappies student critics decide who among their peer performers and technicians should be recognized for awards at the end of the season with glamour and excitement.

HOW IT ALL WORKS

Each participating school selects a show to be attended, and also forms a team of 3 to 9 student critics and 2 adult volunteers in the fall. Shows may have between 20 and 90 critics in attendance. Critic teams and mentors gather in a private discussion room to perform pre, mid, and post show discussions. The technical and performance aspects of the show are discussed with provided documentation from the host school.

After each show, with adult oversight, the mentors and program director select the best written reviews to be sent to local press outlets. All the reviews are also sent back to the performing school.

At the end of the season, a Tonys-like celebration occurs, where all nominated shows perform a cutting or the critics' choice song, and the final Cappies awards are presented with a trophy by regional critics and peers.

2022 NCA Gala TICKETS AVAILABLE

We have GREAT news!

There are AVAILABLE TICKETS!!!. (Please keep reading - do NOT rush through this message...)

Unlike in previous years, to save -EVERYONE- the headache (and stress) of trying to make their way downtown to the Kennedy Center Box Office, for the POTENTIAL of any POSSIBLE tickets (and prevent any issues that may occur as a result) - these tickets are 100% GUARANTEED.

Here's the catch:
The gala has always been our primary method of raising funds to keep the program running. To benefit both Cappies NCA as an organization and YOU, the audience, we are holding a **SILENT AUCTION** for the remaining 9 tickets.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW: ALL school requests have been fulfilled to the best of our abilities _prior_ to these tickets becoming available. These tickets are NOT IN ANY WAY ones that would have otherwise gone to a member school if it was previously requested by the initial deadline. These tickets are 100% fair game for EVERYONE.

Are you still interested? Here's the big question: How do YOU participate in the silent auction?

There are two methods to register/get started.

The FIRST option is to register by text message/SMS:

  • Text: "nca22gala (followed by your full name)" to 541-583-4642
    • For example: nca22gala John Smith
  • Follow the registration link you are sent from GalaBid to log in and take part in the silent auction.
    • Standard text messaging rates apply

The SECOND option is to register by using a web browser:

  • Visit: https://app.galabid.com/nca22gala
  • Click on the 'Register' button
  • Enter your details and click 'Register'
  • You will then receive a text to your mobile phone with a verification link.
    • Clicking the link will take you to the silent auction page, where you can then log in with the password you used during registration on your browser.
    • You are now ready to take part in the silent auction.

The winning bidder for each item will be able to pick up their ticket at the VIP Table located outside of the entrance to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall beginning at 6 pm on Monday, June 6th 2022.

The winning bidder agrees that the purchase of this ticket is considered a tax-free donation that is considered tax-deductible minus the original base price of $50. All sales are final. No refunds/exchanges accepted. A receipt will be transmitted for tax reporting purposes after the silent auction closes at 4:30 pm on June 6th, 2022.

Thank you for a phenomenal 2022 season. Please have a safe and relaxing summer, and we hope you enjoy the gala.

We look forward to seeing you in the 2023 season next school year.
