On February 14, 2018, seventeen people were killed and seventeen more were wounded at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, surpassing the Columbine high school massacre.
Since Cappies was founded in the wake of the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, we were reminded once again of the importance of theatre as both an outlet for creativity, and a means of healing through freedom of expression. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida is part of the South Florida Cappies family and had a devastating loss.
As of May 5th, 2018, Cappies of the National Capital Area has collected $4,505 from public donations made primarily by families within the Cappies program across the US and Canada, and has been sent as a gift to their representative in Florida. In memoriam, any messages left for those families can be found at https://www.cappies.com/donate2sfc
The entire Cappies community supports Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as they walk towards a brighter and safer future.
