14th Annual Cappies Gala!!

News, Gala | 0 Comments | | Return |

The Fourteenth Annual Cappies Awards Gala was held on May 19th at Unionville High School.  The excitement was palpable from the first "Hello!" and all throughout the evening as the Cappies awards were handed out to high school students who put on their Sunday clothes to celebrate high school theatre in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

The big winner of the evening was Germantown Academy who took home six Cappies awards out of their eight nominations for their hilarious romp, Neil Simon's Rumors.  Germantown received the Cappies Play Award, Actor in a Play (Vinit Joshi), Actress in a Play (Naomi Freedman), Ensemble in a Play, Supporting Actor in a Play (Danny Ritz) and Supporting Actress in a Play (Alex Kafrissen).

For the musical category, Upper Merion High School took home four Cappies awards for their nostalgic and hilarious production of The Drowsy Chaperone, including the recipient of the top nod of Musical Production and Lead Actor in a Musical (Justin Halpern).

A big moment of the night paying tribute to the critics, Harriton High School received the Critics Team Cappies award, with two of the team receiving individual honors for Underclass Critic (Aiden Kaliner) and 11th Grade Critic (Patrick McCann).

Also, in a touching tribute, the Casey Feldman scholarship, in honor of the memory of former critic Casey Feldman, was presented Lionel McCulloch of the PA Leadership Charter School of Performing and Fine Arts.  The honor goes to a critic who best exemplifies not only the spirit of the Cappies program but the spirit of community and service that best represented Casey's lasting legacy.

In the end, fifteen schools took home at least one Cappies Award which is a true sign of the diversity of excellence in theatre across the Greater Philadelphia Area!
