Cappies International Theater...
is an exciting program made possible by the creation of new Cappies programs throughout the US and Canada. Through Cappies International Theater, high school theater stars (Cappie award honorees) from across the U.S. and Canada workshop new works, written by student playwrights.
In the summer of 2002, ten Cappie honorees performed three shows at a small theater on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California. In each of the summers of 2003-2007, between 37 and 38 Cappies honorees from across the US presented three shows in the US Capital, at the Alden Theater and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
This summer, from late July into August, Cappies honorees from programs across the US and Canada will present three shows in the US Capital, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
This year's three shows will be: Starz! (a collection of student-written songs, monologues, and comic sketches), and Muzical! (Anasazi, which tells the story of "The Pahaana of the Prophecy," a Hopi legend about a white person ("Pahaana") who brings a missing piece of the prophetic "Anasazi Stone" to Black Mesa, unleashing fateful events.)
